"I'm a believer. Snakes are fun! I was more than a bit skeptical about using snakes and birds for therapy. I’m accustomed to seeing dogs assisting people, and the benefits of having pets are a given."

"I have scanned some pictures of the cutest thing you will ever see! Her name is Screech Eileen and she’s a cockatiel. She’s white, not yellow (she’s scared of yellow. LMAO!), but her feathers come in white and turn yellow. hee hee She has deformed feet (her momma was from a birdie mill), once had a hole in her head cause my other birdie (R.I.P. Spazz Matilda) pecked her, and she only has one wing… But she’s my baby. Anywho. While we were going to Santa Barbara last month, we stopped by Pismo Beach and I had to see if Screechie would go on sand. Well, she did and she liked it a little too much!"

"I usually close it quickly and pretend I didn't see it. When I moved to Vicksburg, I had two cats and a bird. I had cared for several kittens and cats, and I considered myself a pro at caring for animals. Little did I know of the nature of birds. Adopting a sun conure into a house with two cats wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but it was one of the most educational. Sun conures are beautiful parrots about the size of a cockatiel. They typically have brilliant yellow bodies with orange heads and wings in gradated shades of blue and green. He came into our lives when he was just five weeks old."

You can't have a flock too big.
From: www.livejournal.com

"At the end of last June, my fiance told me we could never have birds of any kind until we had a big house to put the birds far away. Now we have 4 parakeets, and a quail. Needless to say he's a pure converted bird person which is excellent for me.

Lately I've been researching adding a cockatiel to our flock eventually. I was wondering if people have ever housed their parakeets and cockatiels in the same cage? Good experience, bad? Advice?

Actually any advice in general you have to offer me would be excellent, like choosing a bird, housing, food, taming, etc. The research I'm doing is helpful but it's more practical for me to hear from you all. Thanks so much!"

"it's been such a long time since i posted anything but what the hay right? :)

i have three birds, pippin, merry and rose. recently i added a dog to my family [i'm sorry i'm an animal-lover like you wouldn't believe!]. my dog had been abused in the past and didn't get along with anybody but for some reason, he and my birds became really good buddies [perhaps it's because i rescued my birdies too!] pippin would even crawl on his back to sleep [don't worry! my dog is so good-natured that he wouldn't bite him].
this morning i woke up to the sound of my dog whining like he was hurt. he came up to my bed, jumped up and started nudging me and then ran off to the direction of my birds' cage. as soon as i woke up and got out of bed to check on my dog, he turned his head to my bird cage.
there was pippin on the floor of his cage all puffed up and his feather looked like it had a fair bit of blood on it. apparently pippin must've had a night-fright which i didn't hear since i was dead asleep and he lost one or two feathers.
i took a styptic pencil and made sure that the wounds didn't bleed anymore and i'm taking him to the vet.
but wow! what a close call aye? if it wasn't for my dog who befriended my friendly birdies, i might have lost pippin!!!
hurray for animals looking out for one another!"
