"I usually close it quickly and pretend I didn't see it. When I moved to Vicksburg, I had two cats and a bird. I had cared for several kittens and cats, and I considered myself a pro at caring for animals. Little did I know of the nature of birds. Adopting a sun conure into a house with two cats wasn't the smartest thing I've ever done, but it was one of the most educational. Sun conures are beautiful parrots about the size of a cockatiel. They typically have brilliant yellow bodies with orange heads and wings in gradated shades of blue and green. He came into our lives when he was just five weeks old."

Photos spur stimulating dialogue
From: NewsTrove.com

"We're doing so because it is the only way to make sense of a survey - a discussion, really - in which more than 500 readers shared their views of what we should or should not publish. The Tribune survey was done in cooperation with a national survey of readers conducted by the Associated Press Managing Editors organization. We're placing the survey results in this section because it is more likely to be read by adults who are issue-driven and less likely to be seen by children. In our video age, still photographs remain the most powerful and potentially most controversial means of delivering the news."

"I am really puzzled. Last night when we covered Fiona up for bed she was perfectly fine. This morning when I went to give her fresh food and water I noticed that her left eye is closed. It's just closed. No outward signs of irritation (i.e.- it's not red, not swollen, etc) and she doesn't seem to be in any pain. She was functioning pretty normally aside from being a bit skittish when I approached on her "blind" side. She attacked her Avi-Cake and her poop is fine. She doesn't seem to be in any pain. Should I be worried? What could be causing this? Sometimes she gets feathers near/on her eyes but she seems totally unaffected by that, normally. Our 'keet likes to preen her head so he may have injured her, but they are in seperate cages so if that's the case the eye should have been closed last night while they were out playing.

Advice, anecdotes, and encouragement would be welcome!

ETA- I just called her vet and she said that it's most likely and irritation or eye infection of some kind. Since the other eye is fine and her nose isn't crusty she doesn't think it sounds indicative of some sort of bigger illness. She told me that if the eye is still shut when I get home from work I should probably take her to an emergency room to make sure it's not a tear, but if the eye if open she's most likely fine."

"UPdate on Wuzo (my female cockatiel)

We brought Wuzo home from the hospital on Tuesday afternoon. With a bottle of baytril she's getting 0.04 and some pro bacterial powder. I'm so fed up with the avian vet Im going to. They still can't find anything wrong with her!!! Well she looks awful. Yesterday I thought she was going to keel over and die!! I was so upset and depressed. I've given her baytril three times now...and today (I'm on my lunch break from work) she looks a little perkier. She's only eating her millet spray...but at least she's eating!! and her poop is solid again. SO I guess whatever it is, is some sort of infection. I've got her in a budgie cage with a heat lamp, in my bathroom (the warmest room of the house). They still arn't being clear with me as to what the "egg like thing" we all felt was/is. *sigh*.
