Willow Flies Away; Owner Devastated: From The Tampa Tribune
From: NewsTrove.com
"The young cockatiel is about a foot long, has a crest of yellow feathers on her head, salmon spots on her cheeks and a gray-and-white body with a few yellow feathers thrown in.
As cockatiels go, she's a pretty standard bird.
But there's nothing ordinary about her.
To Willow's owner, Debbie, the bird was a soul mate, a symbol, a companion, a friend.
She made life worth living. She was a reason to get up in the morning. Another living creature to say good night to at the end of the day.
Willow flew away Jan. 11 while on her way with Debbie from their Carrollwood area home to have her wings clipped."
A-B Passes on Jackson Super Bowl Ad Spoof
From: NewsTrove.com
"CHICAGO Anheuser-Busch said it considered running a spot during this year's upcoming Super Bowl that parodies Janet Jackson's infamous "wardrobe malfunction" that took place during the halftime show of last year's game, but decided against it after consultation with Fox and NFL officials.
"We basically came to the conclusion at the same time" that the commercial, created by Omnicom Group's DDB in New York, resurrected too many bad memories and therefore shouldn't air during the Super Bowl telecast, said Bob Lachky, vp of brand management and director of global brand creative for A-B."
Room with a view
From: NewsTrove.com
"A
s Marsha Mason was plotting the renovation of her Wildwood Avenue home, she knew something special was called for in her dark entry hall.
She decided it would take more than a lighter shade of paint on the brown and olive walls to give the room a dramatic face-lift. And so she called on local artist Jo Farris to design a mural for the space.
Soon Farris had painted seven Gothic windows on the walls -- painted replicas of two actual windows framing the front door."

"A couple of questions:
I have a 6-year-old cockatiel, a very sweet male who's very affectionate. Recently I've become very busy in my work, and soon I'll be going to college. I'm afraid my little guy will become very lonely. I'll be going instate, therefore I'll still be living at home for a while, but I still won't be able to take him out of his cage and play with him like I used to. I'm seriously considering getting him a friend, most likely a budgie; I don't wan't territory fights with another male tiel, and I don't want the chance of him mating with a female tiel. I've bird-sat my friend's budgie, and they seemed to get along great. My questions are:
1. Do any of you have both a budgie and a tiel, and what are they like together? How long have you had both together? How long did it take for both to get used to each other?
2. Is it possible for birds to mate outside of their species? Have any of you had it happen?
3. Male or female budgies? Chico (my friend's male budgie) was great with my male, but which, based on your experiences, is better for an older male cockatiel?
4. I want to buy from a breeder as opposed to a pet store, but aside from looking at the breeders birds and cages(clear eyes, heathy body, clean cages, etc), how else should I determine that this is a good breeder to buy from? What's the price range I should expect for a young budgie?
Thanks to all who reply! This is much appreciated!

What else is there in the morning...
From: www.livejournal.com
"than the urge to whore out pictures of The birds? Nothing.
For anyone who's wondering.. Smeagol is the older of the two, both are normal grey males, and therefore Smeagol is the one with the bright yellow head. Apparenlty, Gollum is a camera whore, as one can tell when I let my hair down and Gollum just had to crank his neck around my hair so that he could stare at the camera, and even still that was not enough, he then decided to climb down my arm to be closer to the action, he sure is turning into quite a character. In other news, yesterday I put both birds on Smeagol's mirror perch (shower perch that we attach to our full length mirrors in the living room) and Gollum decided to play with the string I attached to the end of the perch. I was pleasantly surprised to see him grab and hold it with his foot, while he continued to nibble at it. I have witnessed this kind of foot play in other parrots, but Smeagol has never done it, always only utilizing his beak. It was adorable. Gollum has already begun to mimick the tone of "Smeagol", though it doesn't quite yet compare to how well Smeagol can actually say it. Smeagol recently has begun to break up that word sometimes, and has begun randomly saying "Smeee" and sometimes "GOL" lol. They bring so much laughter into my life. Such is love!
