Choosing a Pet
From: NewsTrove.com

"“My relationship with Alf brings me such pleasure. The non-verbal bond and deep connection we have is very satisfying. No matter how badly my day has gone, he’s there to greet me with his tail wagging and an adoring smile. He’s fun to play with, so exuberant, energetic and smart. It’s a joy to see him run at the beach, catch a Frisbee, or climb a mountain trail three times faster than I can.” “After my last dog died, the joy went out of my life. This summer, I picked up a cuddly little lamb and a huge smile brightened my face. I knew instantly that I needed something to take care of."

Odd Jobs, Guns and Grammar

""Fine, but the wardrobe's mine." John Thompson, who served as superintendent at Tulsa Public Schools from 1994 to 2000, may be looking for a new job again--now that the Pittsburgh School System has decided to buy out the remaining five months of his contract. If you remember, Thompson was best known for wearing expensive, hand-made suits and for never seeing a job opening he didn't pursue. It got so embarrassing that the Tulsa School Board voted to not renew his contract, even after Thompson decided to stay. Well, it now looks like the school system in Pittsburgh has had enough."

"Member # 2830 posted October 26, 2004 09:29 PM I'm wanting to learn more and more about my cockatiels. I know quite a bit, but I also know there's more knowledge out there to be absorbed. I'm not totally sure if this subject should be posted here, but I was wondering if anyone could direct me to any cockatiel sites that are full of information of just about everything on 'tiels."

"I have a funny story about Elvis yesterday. My mother and father-in-law came over yesterday and brought dinner. Elvis was more high-maintenance than usual and was perched on the back of a chair in the living room. My mother-in-law sat down on the couch with a plate of roast beef and potatoes. Elvis immediately spotted the potatoes (one of his all-time favorites) and flew over and landed with a plop in the puddle of gravy on her plate. I laughed because Elvis had gravy all over his feet and butt. I picked him up and he was like "what? I'm hungry!" So, I gave him his own personal potato to munch on. What an imp!"

My cockatiel has diarrhea
From: www.livejournal.com

"Hi!

I've just recently joined this lovely community on behalf of my two lovely 'tiels Bud and Birdie (both girls).

I think something may be wrong with Bud. She's been having diarrhea for almost a month now. She's still been eating normally, but she's been drinking a lot. She still sits in her usual perch spot, she still preens, and she seems to be fine otherwise. She's been sleeping on two feet lately, and that's got me a bit worried. I've given her spray millet, boiled rice, cockatiel gravel, and I've tried giving her a few drop of pepto bismol, but she still has the diarrhea. I want to take her to the vet, but my parents insist she's fine. Does anyone have any idea what could be wrong with Bud? Should I get her to the vet right away despite what my parents say?

I'm so worried for her:("

Going into heat
From: www.livejournal.com

"I'm not sure what to do about this - lately, it's seemed like Eriza's been going into heat a lot. I've tried the advice I've seen given to other people - moved the cage, rearranged things, and she always gets at least 12 hours of darkness. I'm not sure what to do - is this something I should see a vet about (nearest avian vet is 2 hours down a mountain, not something I can do easily) or do different birds go into that stage more than others? Any help's appreciated."
