Hundreds gather to mourn Doris
From: NewsTrove.com
"NEWMAN - Doris Castro-Calzada had been planning her first Communion in April, relatives said.
The 11-year-old wanted a big party, with a pretty dress, mariachi music and hundreds of people to celebrate the occasion.
"That was her dream," said Vanessa Castro, 17, one of Doris' cousins.
Instead, the sixth-grader was buried Monday, four days after her body was found in a canal about two miles west of town.
Jose Ulisses Duran, 20, of Gustine was arrested and faces a murder charge. He had been dating Doris' sister Cristal, 16, and had a secret relationship with Doris, authorities said. The nature of the relationship is unclear."
Kamloops This Week News Story
From: NewsTrove.com
"By DANNA JOHNSON
I couldn't have been the only one a little saddened watching Jeopardy play out Tuesday night.
Ken Jennings - the champion of nerds, the defender of dweebs - was toppled from his game show throne after stuffing $2.5 million in his pocket.
Since he began his reign over the 7:30 p.m. time slot in June, I've watched him with a mixture of admiration and fear.
How could one man know so much? How is it I know so little?
Tuesday night, I wondered aloud, how he could eventually be brought down in such a lacklustre way."
Peterson Defense Begins Fight for His Life
From: NewsTrove.com
"The witnesses, he added, will create themes that will be "repeated over and over again." Among those themes is the idea that "this is a man who constantly put others first," Harris said.
The defense strategy is to call about 20 witnesses, including relatives, friends, co-workers, employers, teachers and neighbors to humanize Peterson — a man prosecutors have vilified as a liar, philanderer and brutal murderer of his 27-year-old pregnant wife.
"I think the defense is trying to put as much time as possible between the retelling of this horrific crime and yesterday's testimony," legal expert Jim Hammer said."

"good morning!
my name's erika and i plan on being a first-time owner of a lil' baby 'tiel come......well, whenever the clutch hatches :)
i should really be studying for a final right now, but i've got a question that i wanna put out there, so maybe i'll have some replies by the time i get home.
so, like i said, it'll be my first time with a 'tiel, and the first time in a long time with a bird. i'm going to vet tech school so that's a good source of information, and i'm also reading books and etc. but i wanted to hear it straight from the mouths of the REAL 'tiel owners. (ie: YA'LL)
i've been thinking about where i want to put the cage because i know location is important. i know this upcoming semester i'll be taking some online classes, so i'll be spending a decent amount of time by the computer.
i thought it'd be nice to keep the cage by the computer since that's where i'd be spending most of my time... and here comes my question.
hopefully this isn't a dumb question.. but i have read and heard that if the bird cage is above eye level, then the bird can become over-dominant. now i'm sure when i stand up, the cage will be eye level or a little less.. but will it cause a problem if i'm sitting at my desk and the cage is above eye level?
i've got one other spot that i think would be good for the cage, but it's on the other side of my apartment (although that doesn't say much, as i'm in a studio apartment) and there's a big spot on the wall for the cage to sit, right between my "bedroom" window and the sliding class doors. no direct light would be possible there. but plenty of sunlight fills the room.
i have no problem putting the cage over on the other side of the room, but then it wouldn't be able to see me as easily while i'm on the computer and it would just be harder to interact, and etc. BUT ALSO, i thought that maybe even if i put the cage on the other side, then i could buy/build a perch to put next to my desk (as it's not very big) so while i'm on the comp, lil birdy can just play on the perch outside of his/her cage.
alrighty, i hope my questions weren't dumb and i hope ya'll can help me. i'm trying to do things right, i really am!
any tips/suggestions/comments would be GREATLY appreciated!!! :)"

New perches and mirror!
From: www.livejournal.com
"I bit the bullet and bought Zest a mirror... He's a bit hesitant to it but he'll still sit there.
Also... check out his new branches... I actually sawed them too short and had to duck over to the hardware store and they screwed screws to the ends so they'll sit in the bars.
Yeah yeah... I still have a traditional perch in there but I need it for his spinny toy! :)"
