Peterson Defense Begins Fight for His Life
From: NewsTrove.com
"Defense lawyer Pat Harris set a different tone in his opening remarks Wednesday by calmly urging the jury to show mercy to the former fertilizer salesman from Modesto.
"We've dealt with five months of this man's life," Harris told the stone-faced jurors. "Now we're going to show you the 30 years that preceded it. You will see that it's a life worth saving."
"You don't know who Scott Peterson is, and it's going to be our job to show you," Harris said.
The witnesses, he added, will create themes that will be "repeated over and over again." Among those themes is the idea that "this is a man who constantly put others first," Harris said."
Cold flight from past ends happily
From: NewsTrove.com
"Nights were getting chilly and were spent at whatever shelter presented itself as he clutched to hang on.
He was only 12 years old. He spoke little and never about his past.
It's not easy being a cockatiel on the run.
Pumpkin, as the bird is now named, belongs to Beverly Stewart, and the two are often seen around town.
''He was rescued three years ago off Highland Country Club golf course,'' Stewart said. ''He was flying around the area. It was the week before Halloween, and he was yellow with bright orange cheeks, so I decided to name him Pumpkin."
Pet Insurance Primer
From: NewsTrove.com
"I’m glad Matty is on the mend. As a pet owner myself, I understand how you feel about her. Pet ownership is on the increase. 58 million American households include a dog, cat, bird, or other companion animal. For most people, a beloved pet is truly a member of the family and we would spare no expense to ensure our pet is healthy and happy. (Yes, happy. Today we even have anti-depressants for pets!)
According to the American Pet Products Manufacturing Association, we spend an estimated $30 billion — that’s billion — on our pets each year. This includes veterinary care, grooming, boarding, toys, beds, etc."

odd tiel behavior
From: www.livejournal.com
"Tuesday night my partner and I came home to find our 6 yo cat suddenly dead on the living room floor. Later, when we calmed down and had time to reflect we remembered that when we came in the house the two tiels Mr. Buzz and Mr. Honeydew and even the budgie Mr. Boober were quite and still. Both were standing on the same perch, silent and with their crests full up. Very odd. Usually they sqwak and cheep and say Hi guy when we get home, but Tuesday it was like a death watch."

"A new bird is destined to join our family! When I awoke to the words, "Let's go look at birds", I shot up in excitement. We have been playing with the idea of getting a second cockatiel. Today that thought was magically turned into a decision. We went to our favourite Pet Store, Primarily Pets. The man that owns this store is a nutter, like most bird people seem to be. He deals mainly with birds. I love visiting that store, though to this date the only items I have purchased there are old issues of bird magazines, including BirdTalk, that he sells 50 cents a copy. We spent over an hour at the store, simply standing in front of the birds and being happy. He has an electus there, that he has had for years, who is a plucker.. but she has definately been looking better and better every time I go on. She is an amusinglittle girl, and like watching us, even offering friendly hellos and his. Beside her, a green cheek amazon also gave us a happy hello. They beautiful Timneh Grey Just watched us like a hawk. A quaker didn't even seemed to notice our presence as he preened himself. All of these birds happily and obediently (I've never seen them disobey their boundaries) sat ontop of their cages. A small Cockatoo (I don't know my cockatoo species but this cockatoo is so small.. I've always pictured cockatoos as huge birds, wow) made loud ruckus until the Store Man went to get him and let him sit on his shoulder as he chatted with us. In other cages, two lovebirds snuggled ontop of their happyhut. A handful of finches dazzled me with their songs. Budgies snuggled eachother letting one rambunctious budgie of the bunch entertained them with his chirps. And last but DEFINETLE not least.. the two baby cockatiels. Approximatly 10 weeks old, these babies own my heart. Stefan and I have yet to decide which of the darling is to become part of our family, but one of them is coming home with us on Thursday. We kind hope one of them gets bought before that time, just so we don't have to choose. heh. I am so happy. I have to get a cage ready for the new bird, though eventually I hope that Smeagol and the new bird will like eachother enough to share a cage, but we'll see what happens when it happens. I am elated.

"Good Morning!
I am just BRAND NEW to this community. I have recently aquired a (now 8 week old) predominatly yellow cockatiel that I have named Zest.
My 15yr old cousin's male and female started making a family so I bought one off her... so far they have had 8 chicks this season. I think he is a boy. Whats the easiest way to tell?
He's been hand raised and fed from 2 weeks and with me since he was four weeks. He's quite active and has a really busy cage with lots treats and toys. Whenever I am home he is annoying me on my desk trying to get under my fingers for a scratch or playing with his foot toys on my desk.
He almost wolf whistles... Im trying out Pop Goes the Weazel and soon some actual words (Mum is a sexy biatch is on the cards) ;)
Currently he is on top of his cage over looking Bardon (if anyone here knows Brisbane) chewing on some native wild flowers (a species of the bottle brush).
I've read through the rules... I hope I dont get critasized (sp?) too much :)
Be nice to me :)"
