Couscous Gets Her Wings Clipped! ...plus Mr. Wiggins!
From: www.livejournal.com

"Today Couscous got her wings clipped. She'd been flying around the living room and it was kinda scary because she'd fly up against the French doors. She'd try and stop herself and brace herself for impact by putting her chest/stomach first. It was fun when she landed on my head or arm. But we're just so afraid she'll go too fast and fly headfirst and hurt her beak or neck, so it was time to clip.

We were going to go to Petland but it's far. They charge $8.99. Then I called Petsmart down the street and they said it was free. So she hissed and complained when we stuck her in the box, and off we went. We got into the store and they said they only do clippings if we bought our bird from them (which we did not.) But they said they'd do it for us today since they told us on the phone they would. It happened that the girl didn't know that it was only for store-purchased birds. It's kind of a dumb rule, because I buy stuff there all the time. Or I wouldn't mind paying a few bucks. But they said no that in the future I'd have to find somewhere else, but they'd do it for us today.

Anyway the lady took her into the glass birdie room and laid Cousie on her leg. Rolled her left, spread her wings, snippity snip. Rolled her right, spread her wings, clippity clip. Back in the box. It was so quick. Then we went and bought her a huge berry treat bar that we can hang from the top of the cage, and the kids saw a new mirror they liked. I have pix that I will post later.

My sister just got a Quaker Parrot two days ago. She's a first time bird owner. She was interested in all our stories about Couscous and our interaction with her. So she and her husband went to a couple of stores "just to look." :-D They brought home the parrot, which is a little larger than a cockatiel. Anyway today she told me they named him Mr. Wiggins. (ain't that soooo cute!) and that it sounds like he's trying to say "uh oh." He's getting adjusted to his new home, and they think Mr. Wiggins is so cool. :-D
