Pet Insurance Primer

"I’m glad Matty is on the mend. As a pet owner myself, I understand how you feel about her. Pet ownership is on the increase. 58 million American households include a dog, cat, bird, or other companion animal. For most people, a beloved pet is truly a member of the family and we would spare no expense to ensure our pet is healthy and happy. (Yes, happy. Today we even have anti-depressants for pets!) According to the American Pet Products Manufacturing Association, we spend an estimated $30 billion — that’s billion — on our pets each year. This includes veterinary care, grooming, boarding, toys, beds, etc."

"I swear Spike thinks it's his personal duty to preen the world. Normally he's a fan of an old green chair I have that's got tassle/fringe at the bottom. He's moved onto my jacket, shoe laces, curtain, my lips, ears, eyebrows, cuticles...

Preening himself and everything else must consume 80% of his awake life."

As we enter the Thanksgiving Holidays I would like to tell you a short story about ...

A Parrot and the Turkey

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift.  The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary.  Every word out of the bird s mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity.

John tried and tried to change the bird s attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to clean up the bird s vocabulary.  Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.  The parrot yelled back.  John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder.  John, in desperation, threw up his hands, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. (If you have ever owned a parrot then you could understand John s frustration)

For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed.  Then suddenly there was total quiet.  Not a peep was heard for over a minute.  Fearing that he d hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.

The parrot calmly stepped out onto John s outstretched arm and said I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions.  I am sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior.

John was stunned at the change in the bird s attitude.  As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, May I ask what the turkey did?

Please note that I do NOT condone placing your bird in the freezer... this post is simply meant to be humorous!! I think most bird owners understand the frustration of squawking birds... but that's part of the reason we love them!! :)

"sadly Im afraid its time I need to cut my teils wings.

My 9mnths old tiel we have been allowing (eg not clipped) to learn to fly for the last two months, however he has now hit the windows hard a few times (even with the blinds down hes managed to still hit them) and hit the walls pretty hard a few time over again..

Im beginning to wonder how long this is suppose to go before he flys and actually lands on somthing rather than hitting the walls over and over..

what should I do? :("
